Staffing Employment Static
[Recruting Landscape]
Normally, staffing employment grows during the course of the year, but not this year, according to a new study from the American Staffing Association. U.S. staffing companies continued to employ an average of 2.8 million temporary and contract workers per day from April through June—the same amount as in the first quarter of 2008. Meanwhile, average daily employment during the period was 6.5% lower than in the same period last year. This represents the third consecutive quarter of year-to-year employment declines, the trade group reports.

Disclosing a disability to a new employer can be beneficial if done right. Revealing a condition can help protect legal rights but can also leave you open to discrimination. Here are a few different approaches to disclosure.
[Career Advice]
A reader wonders what will become of him if a new project he's been asked to spearhead goes bust. In a rocky economy, it makes sense to worry, but holding back or asking for safeguards won't help.
[Second Acts]
The leap for Linda Watt from her first career as 29-year-veteran of the U.S. Foreign Service that culminated as the Ambassador to Panama to the chief operating officer of the Episcopal Church isn't as big as one would think.
[Law Ranking]
U.S. News & World Report is considering reworking its ranking system to crack down on "gaming," which could affect the status of dozens of U.S. law schools. The practice channels lower-scoring applicants into part-time programs that don't count in the rankings.
Career Tip of the Week

[Benefiting From Mentors]
A trusted mentor can be a source of support throughout your career -- whether you're looking to get ahead, switch jobs or beat any number of professional challenges. To make the most of the relationship, career experts recommend meeting with your mentor on a regular basis, such as once a month. If your mentor is a colleague at your firm, suggest getting together outside of the office to avoid distractions. And bear in mind that you'll get the most reliable and complete feedback if you're open and honest.
